The Restuarant At The Highbury Barn

The

The Highbury Barn dates back to beyond the 18th Century and in 1899 was sold for £92 5 shillings and 5 pence. The original 'Bill of Sale' is framed in the lounge bar.

This included the pub, brewery, 1 gallon of rum, 3/4 case of minerals and 1/2 a cake. By the early 1970's the pub was extended into what you see today.

Past

There is rumoured to have once been a secret tunnel from the cellar through to the Abbas Hall area of Cornard, once belonging to the Convent of the Blessed Virgin and used by monks to gain entrance to the pub. This area of Gt Cornard, once known as the Manor of Cornard Magna was even mentioned as in the Doomsday Book.

The

Soak in the atmosphere of the Old Bar Lounge with its exposed timber beams and open log fire, prior to dining in our comfortable, spacious and light Restaurant, with luxurious high backed leather chairs and full waitress service.

Jason Schroeder, owner and chef, has recently taken over the running of the pub and has refurbished throughout including the new accomodation.

Present

Jason has an excellent reputation locally for food and has worked at numerous prestigious venues in the area, gaining various AA rosettes for food and service at a number of previous restaurants.

The Highbury Barn has restaurant seating for up to 150 for a carved buffet, wedding reception or other function along with a large garden and patio area for al fresco dining, and bbq's in the summer.
